About Ericsson

Ericsson’s story began in 1876 when Lars Magnus Ericsson opened a telegraph repair shop in Stockholm. Two years later, Ericsson began to produce his own telephone equipment and became a telephone and switchboard supplier for Stockholms Allmänna Telefonaktiebolag, a Swedish telecommunications operating company. Over the following years, Ericsson continued working on telephone technology, his products becoming popular in Scandinavia and other Nordic countries. Leading into the 1900’s, Ericsson expanded internationally, entering markets such as the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, and more. During the early 1900’s, Ericsson continued focusing on telephones and switchgear until they introduced the first fully automatic telephone system in 1956. Soon after, in the 1960’s, they also released a hands-free speaker telephone. Leading up to the turn of the century, Ericsson entered the mobile phone market and the mobile internet sector. In 2001, Ericsson spun off their mobile phones in a joint venture with Sony, and over the next few years, the company faced major restructuring. As Eriscsson rebuilt, they began acquiring multiple businesses and helped develop 3G standards and technology. Currently, Ericsson continues to develop telecommunications and networking equipment as they expand.
