About Grote Industries
Grote Industries was founded in 1901 by Wiliam Grote. In 1922, Grote’s son Walter F. Grote Sr. introduced the country’s first injection molded plastic products, leading the company in a shift to the automotive market. From here, the company’s mission statement became leading the research, development, and production of vehicle safety equipment. In 1929, Grote introduced the first fully automatic plastic injection molding machine, as well as the first retro-reflective reflector, which served as the basis for modern reflectors.
Injection molding material was largely unavailable until 1936, when Grote became the first company to produce commercially-available injection molding material. The company continued manufacturing injection molding and other plastic products until 1965 when Grote engineers developed the Turtle-Back Marker Lamp. It was the industry’s first totally non-metallic lamp, as well as the first no-splice wiring system. Following the success of this product, the company went international, expanding to Canada in 1976. After opening the Canadian office, the company took further steps, producing long-life lamps, modular wiring systems, and LED marker lights.
Continued growth warranted the creation of an electronics-specific division, thus Grote Electronics was formed in Waterloo, Ontartio, Canada in 1992 with a focus on technology, service life, and efficiency for Grote’s LED products as well as communication systems. In the 21st century the company continues to take strides in their production of LED lighting systems, coil cords, circuit protection, and electrical connectors.
