About Kato Engineering

Kato Engineering was founded in 1926 and saw initial success through the production of a rotary converter. These found immediate popularity and were used to power radios as well as devices found on ships, military tanks, and more. Soon after, Kato produced the company’s first synchronous alternator, the first American company to offer this product. During WWII, the company provided more than 10,000 generators for the US Ordnance Department to support the war effort. After the war, Kator developed a full line of brushless generators and shifted focus to supplying generators for Original Equipment Manufacturers. The company continued to grow throughout the 20th century, delivering its 100,000th order in 1993. Kato Engineering is now a part of Nidec Electric Power Generation.

• Power Generation Solutions: Kato Engineering offers power generators that come in a range of voltage, size, and design configurations for a variety of industries, such as petroleum, gas and steam turbine, diesel and gas prime mover, power conditioning, traction, government and defense, nuclear power, data centers, and more.

                Services

• Parts and Maintenance: Kato is partnered with a global network of service facilities that help with installation, on-site inspection and repair, diagnostics, remote or on-site trouble-shooting, preventive and scheduled maintenance, and more.
• Remanufacturing: This division includes full refurbishment and replacement of worn and used alternators, restoring them to a like-new state with comparable performance. All remanufacturing is done in-house at Kato’s facilities in Minnesota, and has a 12-month warranty on replacement parts and rewinds. Workshop services also include bearing replacement, rotor or stator rewinding, painting, load testing, and more.
