About Manufacturer
In 1949, the Lockheed P-80 Shooting Star became the first aircraft to employ a control grip stick, an invention that sparked the beginnings of the Mason Electric Company. Howard Mason, who founded the company in 1951, designed and manufactured the very first reliable trim switch. Less than 10 years later, the company would go on to manufacture and distribute grips and wheels, integrating the switching components and creating the Human Machine Interface (HMI) pedigree. The company gained a new identity in 1996 after Esterline purchased Mason Electric with the goal of combining their resources to revolutionize the aerospace industry. At this point, the company’s name became Esterline Mason. The companies continued to grow after merging, leading to Esterline purchasing Janco and combining Mason and Janco to create Mason Controls in 2002. Throughout the 2010’s Mason Controls took on larger projects and created full cockpit solutions, control systems, and assemblies. After Esterline purchased Mason Electric in 1996, the company became formerly known as Esterline Mason and changed goals to focus on pooling available resources together to revolutionize the aerospace industry. Esterline Mason would go on to acquire Janco and with their tools produce Mason Controls in 2002. Mason Controls embraced larger projects involving cockpit solutions, control systems, and assemblies throughout the 2010’s.
Products, Services, and Platforms
Products Include But Are Not Limited To
● Flight Grips & Control Wheels: Mason Control Wheels are found in commercial and military airframes such as Boeing, Lockheed, Bombardier, Gulfstream, Honda, Emrbraer, and more. Their designs are tailored to each aircraft to create a signature cockpit experience. Their flight grips such as the B-8, HOTAS, and HOCAS are functional in many applications and compatible with many aircraft.
● Rotary Switches: Mason rotary selector switches are complex miniaturized electromechanical systems capable of a broad spectrum of functions while interfacing AC or DC power to both inductive and resistive loads. Mason switches are more compact, lighter weight, reduce circuit complexity, and increase reliability.
● Cockpit Controls: Mason produces a wide array of cockpit controls for military and commercial applications. Throttles, control columns, speed brakes, landing gear levers, auto throttles, active collective controllers, rudder and brake pedals, and flap levers are all cockpit controls designed and manufactured by Mason Controls.
