About ABB Group

ABB Group was founded in 1988 through the merger of Allmänna Svenska Elektriska Aktiebolaget (ASEA) and Brown, Boveri & Cie (BBC). Both of these companies were producers of electrical products such as generators, lights, motors, turbines, and transformers, and both companies had been in business since the 1800s. During ABB’s first two years of operation, the company acquired more than 50 subsidiaries such as Flakt AB, Sadelmi/Cogepi, Scandia-Randers A/S, parts of Westinghouse, and Combustion Engineering. In 1999, ABB released the IRB 6000 robot, a modular design tool used within the spot-welding industry. It quickly became one the fastest and most accurate models available. This helped the company grow in Central and Eastern Europe, as well as Asia. by 1994, the company had more than 30,000 employees and 100 plants, engineering centers, offices, and service locations in Asia.

In 2000, the company sold off assets including its nuclear power business and fossil-fuel operations to focus on renewable energy transmission and distribution. Despite financial strains in the early 2000s, the company acquired Kuhlman Electric Corporation, Baldor Electric, Thomas & Betts, Power-One, Bernecker + Rainer Industrie-Electronic, and GE Industrial Solutions. The company continues to grow and finished 2019 with revenue of nearly 30 billion dollars.

• Voltage Systems: ABB offers a full range of products for low, medium, and high voltage systems. This includes motor controllers, circuit breakers, conduits and fittings, earthing and lightning protection, wire and cable management solutions, switchgear, capacitors and filters, surge arresters, and more. 
• Communication Networks: ABB provides wired and wireless communications technology for industries such as power generation, transmission, and distribution, mining, oil and gas, transportation, and public infrastructure. The products they offer include optical networks, teleprotection, voice systems, network management suites, and power line carriers.

The company also produces a wide range of high-power semiconductors used in traction, industry, and energy transmission applications.
