About NCR Corporation
NCR Corporation was first established in 1881 when investors bought James Ritty’s cash register invention, establishing the National Manufacturing Company. In 1884, the company renamed itself to the National Cash Register Company, producing the first mechanical registers. Moving into the 1900’s, NCR began building windowed factories and established benefits for their employees as they began growing in production. In the first years of the 1900’s, NCR developed the first electric powered register, entered banking, and acquired the Ellis Adding Typewriter Company to add accounting report capabilities to their products. In the 1950’s, NCR entered the realm of computing, creating a business computer with a solid state drive in 1958. NCR further revolutionized banking and accounting when, in the 1970’s, they released ATMs and drive-through ATMs for customers. In 1991, AT&T acquired and merged with NCR, and soon after began acquiring multiple businesses to further developments. Six years later, in 1997, NCR became independent once again and continued to acquire businesses themselves and produce new products for payments and money transfers.
